On Saturday, April 26th at the Wilda Marston Theatre, Erin Lynn
won the title of Mrs. Alaska United States® 2008. She will go on
to represent Alaska's married women at the national Mrs.
home
United States® pageant in Las Vegas this July and will continue her reign as Mrs. Alaska locally throughout Alaska. Erin Lynn Gray is a work-at-home
mother who lives in south Anchorage with her husband, Aaron, her daughters Mackenzie and Delaney, and her goddaughter Tristen. Erin Lynn and her
husband started dating before her freshman year in high school, and they got married shortly after her eighteenth birthday - the true definition of high school
sweethearts. They celebrate seven years of marriage on May 19, 2008.
Born and raised in Washington state, Erin Lynn moved to Alaska when she was thirteen. For the next few years, she was part of a group of teens who
helped found New Direction Ministries, an outreach to troubled teens. At age sixteen, Erin Lynn went on a mission trip to an orphanage in VicenteGuerrero,
Mexico. The trip also included visits to local work camps where she helped serve meals to workers and their families.
The following spring, just a week after her seventeenth birthday, Erin Lynn graduatedhigh school. Through I.D.E.A. (Interior Distance Education of Alaska)
she was able to complete all high school credits in only three years. While doing her school work on evenings and weekends, Erin Lynn became the
youngest employee at a local family practice doctors’ office. ErinLynn worked her way up from filing and data entry to patient accounts & medical billing. She
worked in this field from 1999-2004.
In the fall of 2004 Erin Lynn became the administrator of the New Direction Resource Center high school completion program for struggling teens. Many of
the students had been expelled from the Anchorage School District. Through this program, students are able to be tutored as a home school student and
receive a diploma. After having her children, she stepped back from this position but continued to do the bookkeeping for New Direction Resource Center
until 2007. Erin Lynn helped her husband start his own business as a music instructor. Currently, she does bookkeeping for Aaron C. Gray Guitar and is
also the childcare coordinator for Anchorage City Church.
During 2007, Erin Lynn was a volunteer leader for a process group helping women to have healthy relationships. For the last three years Erin Lynn and her
husband have given pastoral marriage counseling. Last year they were a mentor couple for a pre-marriage program, and this year they were able to recruit
and train new mentor couples. She is on the small group development committee at Anchorage City Church, getting individuals connected in lasting
relationships. Erin Lynn makes weekly visits to Highland Mountain Correctional Center for women, and her husband leads music there for monthly church
services.
Erin Lynn considers her platform to be more than just an ideal, but a lifestyle. That is why she is actively
“Investing Time, Talent, and Resources in Individuals.” She believes that the effect of this type of mentoring
and role modeling can be exponential. Each person whose life is invested in can then affect several more
people, until our whole community benefits.
Scrap booking family memories is Erin Lynn’s favorite pastime. She also enjoys reading, accessorizing,
and joining her husband in following their favorite sports teams. Erin Lynn has never been able to turn
down a white mocha or chocolate cake.
