Meet Mrs. Anchorage 2008
Devona Cain has been married to her
high school sweetheart, Curtis, for the
past 16 years. They have a 14 year old
daughter, named Ellana. Curtis and
Devona have had the opportunity to travel
extensively, due to Curtis being in the
Army. As a matter of fact, Ellana was born
in Fairbanks while the couple was
stationed at Ft. Wainwright. They both fell
in love with Alaska, and decided that when
they had the opportunity they would return
to make it their home. As luck would have
it, Curtis joined the Alaska National Guard
and the couple was able to move to
Anchorage. Devona then went to work for
the Alaska Court System as a judicial
assistant for Master Suzanne Cole.

In 2001, Devona was diagnosed with type I diabetes at the age of 28. Type I is generally considered juvenile diabetes, so the diagnosis at an advanced age
was uncommon. Devona researched the disease and learned through diet, exercise, nutrition, artificial insulin, and careful glucose monitoring she would
be able to manage the disease. Since then, she has volunteered for the Diabetes Association, striving to be a healthy role model for other diabetics.
Devona is not only living with diabetes, but thriving with it.
Devona and her daughter Ellana, also enjoy volunteering for the Food Bank of Alaska. This past spring, they organized a can food drive at Begich Middle
School , where Ellana is a student - it was quite a success! Devona is also a member of the holiday planning committee for the Anchorage branch of the
Alaska Court System. And, in Devona's spare time, she enjoys shopping, exercising, camping the outback of Alaska, and watching movies with her family.
